8 of his fortune towards projects that promoted reconciliation. The idea of ‘Shared Education’ was to bring catholic children and protestant children together in the same classroom. If the catholic school had a music room they would share it with the protestant children and the protestant school in return would share their lovely art room with the catholic children. Children who grew up on the same street and had never spoken found themselves on a common ground. The shared learning experience became a much looked forward to event with participants benefiting not only within the framework of the shared facilities, but by way of human interaction delivered through the lens of learning. Such an atmosphere created mutual respect together with a healthy social environment where new relationships were formed between both children and teachers who were willing to give of their time and skills in order to implement the idea. However, the best part in my opinion is the impression imparted on these young children that can be taken with them into society. The benefits of the programme were so positive it now runs throughout Northern Ireland as part of the primary school educational programme acting as proof that diversity can as, John Hume suggested, be accommodated. With enough support behind the RIGHT idea much can be accomplished. As we approach the 80 th Anniversary of Victory Day on the 8 th of May my thoughts return to the Russian people who we should be forever grateful to for saving our world. Now as a new era dawns and exciting new prospects appear on the horizon, just like Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s Bumblebee, the goal of all goals is taking flight, rising above borders, sanctions and outdated systems, a goal we can all be a part of on a New Shared Path to the Ultimate Victory because now indeed we have something meaningful to live for!
